Winter Walk & Warm-up: Experience the Virtues of the Dormant Garden & A Greenhouse Stroll

March 5, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

DATE: Saturday – March 5th
TIME: 10am – 1pm
PRESENTED BY: Vincent A. Simeone – Horticulturalist /Lecturer / Garden Writer www.vincentsimeone.com

Workshop Description:
Winter is one of the most beautiful times of the year to appreciate the garden. Although plants lie dormant, interesting characteristics such as the growth habit, ornamental fruit, and bark interest become most evident. In addition, conifers and broadleaved evergreens can provide unique foliage texture and colors that illuminate the landscape. Vincent A. Simeone, Horticulturalist, lecturer and garden writer, will lead guests down the paths of a winter wonderland focusing on the process of selecting and designing with exceptional trees, shrubs and even a few native grasses. One of Simeone’s main goals is to inspire gardeners to utilize exceptional horticultural treasures such as winter fruiting plants; select broadleaved evergreens and conifers; deciduous trees offering striking bark textures and colors; and flowering shrubs that bloom on the fringes of the winter season. This “walkabout” will also offer important information on sound garden maintenance practices and a plant palette that will provide food and shelter for animals in winter. The gardens at Landcraft Foundation is the perfect setting for an intimate exploration of the virtues of a winter garden. Dormancy will break in time, but beforehand there is much to appreciate and benefit from. Once the charms of the February morning wear off and reality settles back into our bones, what a better way to warm up than with an informative, stimulating and yet nourishing walk through a greenhouse in full swing? Participants will experience the warmth and lively houses of Landcraft Environment’s nursery led by founder and owner Dennis Schrader.
